Amhearst, MA: Amherst teen reports bullying to police

(NECN: Northampton, Mass.) - A teenage girl who attends Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School in Northampton has reported a bullying complaint to police, WGGB reports.

According to the report, Northampton Police Capt. Paul Savino said a 16-year-old girl from Amherst reported activity in which a group of students allegedly committed verbal harassment, made threats and used racial slurs against her.

Capt. Savino told WGGB a meeting had been arranged with parents to address the issue, and that police had been working with school administrators.

Bullying has come to the local and national forefront after criminal charges were brought against a group of South Hadley High School students for the alleged harassment of Phoebe Prince, 15, who later committed suicide.

Prince's death resulted in action from state legislators to move to create and anti-bullying law.
