Gloucester, MA: DA: No evidence of bullying in teen's death

Investigators say evidence does not indicate that bullying played a role in the death of 13-year-old Michael Grzybinski of Gloucester, the O'Maley Middle School student struck by an MBTA train near Babson Reservoir Monday night.
"At this stage of the intensive ongoing investigation, the evidence does not reflect that bullying or any other unlawful behavior by anyone else was the cause of this young boy's death," Steve O'Connell, a spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said this afternoon.
A cause of death for Grzybinski, a Harrison Avenue resident, has still not been determined as authorities await the findings of the state medical examiner and a Gloucester police investigation.
On Tuesday, police said they did not suspect foul play in the death; they also did not rule it an accident.
Since Grzybinski was struck by the Rockport-bound train around 6:30 p.m. Monday, there has been speculation on the Internet and in conversations that bullying may have played a role in his death.
Official cause of death determinations by the medical examiner, including final autopsy results and toxicology tests, can take months to finalize.
